# I Need Prototypes Before Committing to Production Tooling
Production tooling is essential for all components that are manufactured in volume.
The machines used to create your casting will need custom tools - such as diecasting moulds and machining fixtures – so that the final part will match its specification. As tooling can be complex, it often needs a sizeable investment upfront (albeit with the potential for significant return, due to the scale of production thereafter).
There’s no need to commit to production tooling without confidence. By creating prototypes, we can help you to turn your concept into a proven model, which is ready for production and primed for success.
## Prototypes will help you to ensure that your initial outlay is backed by a dependable output
At MRT, we offer a full range of prototyping options - from simple nylon 3D prints, to machined from solid or sand cast, full-function samples. Your prototype will then be ready for testing, so the final yield of the project can be approved.
By using best practice techniques such as Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA) and tests for Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), the design and engineering team – both at MRT and in-house – can ascertain that the concept is production-ready, without risk. These design activities are supported by our MAGMAsoft casting simulation software, to give confidence that our proposed component and tooling designs will deliver optimal performance once manufactured.
